A Film adaptation of the TV series.
Based on Martin Caidin’s novel Cyborg, the TV series The Six Million Dollar Man aired from 1973 (telemovies, the series proper started in 1974) to 1978 (with 3 more telemovies in 1987, 1989, and 1994)
In An Evening With Kevin Smith 2: Evening Harder, Smith talks about being told in 1995 that there were plans for a Six Million Dollar Man feature film and he signed to writer it. He says that he struggled with the script and by the time his finished it in 1998, the project had been through three different sets of executives.
Like in the episode “The Seven Million Dollar Man,” the script featured a fellow bionic man – Barney Miller.
In 2000, the Farrelly Brothers and Chris Rock were connected to a camp adaptation.
After the success of Dynamite’s adaptation of Kevin Smith’s unused Green Hornet script they decided to use the same team (writer Phil Hester and artist Jonathan Lau) to adapt Smith’s unused script as The Bionic Man. In the comic Miller became Hiller.
